Dr. Qasem has over two decades of leadership and technical experience spanning engineering, academia, and environmental research across the US, Europe, and the Middle East. He specializes in leveraging cutting-edge technologies to monitor environmental changes, manage natural resources, and drive evidence-based decision-making for sustainable development.

Dr. Qasem previously served as the Director of Science, Engineering, and Technology at the American Academy of Arts & Sciences in Cambridge, US, where he oversaw the design and implementation of high-impact international initiatives, including the Commission on Accelerating Climate Action. Earlier in his career, he held roles in academia, research, and engineering. His expertise includes extensive experience with environmental monitoring, remote sensing, data analysis, GIS, machine learning, and environmental policy and strategic planning. Dr. Qasem is an independent advisor based in Austria and advises private sector organizations, government entities, and international organizations, including the Saudi National Center on Environmental Compliance, on sustainability and environmental initiatives. He is a domain expert at Carbon13 and a member of the IUCN Commission on Environmental, Economic and Social Policy (CEESP).
